Headmaster's Letter, September 2007
Dear Parents,
With heat waves and devastating fires hopefully behind us, all I can wish for your children is that they have a problem-free and happy academic year.
As a result of the General Elections programmed for this Sunday, we are obliged by law to shut down school Friday 14 September as well as Monday 17 September.
Please be informed that the dates of our second Mid-Term break have been changed - the new dates are Friday 7, Saturday 8, Sunday 9 and Monday 10 March, a 4 day mid-term break which incorporates Ash Monday.
Also know, that after-school clubs will commence operation on 1st October. Ordinary clubs (e.g. chess, newspaper, environmental etc.) will start meeting as each one is ready somewhere between mid-late September and early October.
The fires that began on Thursday 23 August (the next day, already referred to as Black Friday, they multiplied exponentially and got out of control) have taken an exceptionally heavy toll, the effects of which will be felt for years. We have decided as a school to channel our contribution/aid to the County of Çëåßá. We hope to adopt a school (or schools) in 1 or more villages and to send them, in kind (desks, blackboards etc) and/or money, a little something to alleviate their burden. Specific details I don’t know yet - we intend to contact people we know there and to ask them what they themselves want and in what form they want it. And our aim is to carry out the transaction directly without any "middle-men". You have always given so generously when it comes to good and worthy causes and I hope this tradition will be maintained.
Our public examination results were once again of a very high standard indeed. In ‘A’ Level (A2 and AS), we had a 97% pass rate of which 49% (!!) was Grade A and 18% Grade B. In the A/S exams, 14 pupils obtained 3 As or better whilst in the A2 modules 7 pupils achieved this. Following those of 2006 and 2002, these are the 3rd best results in our 27 year history.
In the IGCSE exams, 88% of our candidates obtained A, B or C with 44% of them achieving A* or A, 24% B and 20% C. 17 pupils obtained 7 As (including A*) or better! The star pupil was Maria Peppas with 8 A* and 1 A, the best results obtained by a pupil since introducing the University of Cambridge IGCSE examination in 1998.
51 pupils graduated this year, the majority entering British universities and the rest universities and colleges in the U.S., Italy, Turkey and Greece.
An abbreviated representative sample of where pupils have gone and what courses they will follow is below:
| A. Argyropoulos | Reading | Ethics & Philosophy |

I wish to congratulate 2 teachers regarding their academic appointments:
Sue Breeze - Over and above being Junior School subject coordinator, she now also assumes the post of Mistress-in-charge of the Cambridge Primary Programme.
Victoria Walters - She becomes Deputy Head of Geography.
We warmly invite new parents to a cheese and wine reception where they can meet and get to know the members of the staff teaching their children. It will be held in the Senior School (just below the outdoor theatre yard) in about 3 weeks on Friday 5 October 7:30 - 9:00 pm.
I wish to end by reminding you that the use of mobile phones is disallowed (by law) from the moment of entry into the school grounds until 3:15 (including breaks and lunchtime). If your child does bring its cell phone to school, it must not only be in its bag, it must be switched off. The sensible thing to do of course is to leave it at home. The penalties for violating this law as laid down by the Greek Ministry of Education are very strict indeed.
Best wishes,
G. N. Kladidis
Headmaster.
